GARTH HILL COLLEGE

Serving North Bracknell and surrounding areas, Garth Hill College is a DIES designated Technology College for 1,600 pupils aged 11 – 19.  The new building designed by architects Scott Brownrigg seeks to continue the tradition of offering students within the Bracknell area superb resources, not only to meet current curriculum demands but also with the view to investing into education of the future.

A&E Catering Design provided design consultancy for the duration of the project, from initial strategy to handover.  As a centre of excellence for Hospitality & Catering Training, Garth Hill College required design of a new Refectory and Production Kitchen and Food Room with separate Vocational Training Kitchen to encourage those students seeking a career in the foodservice industry.  The latter being partially sponsored by local hotels and catering businesses.  This training kitchen was to replicate, as far as possible, the type of equipment found in the commercial sector.

The school carries BREEAM ‘very good’ in the construction of the new building. In designing the catering facilities consideration was given to energy efficiency, equipment life cycle, food purchasing policy and food production methods, waste management and carbon emissions.
